Why are humans so special and why are the humans of Earth even moreso than this beyond the fact that we live here?
Our universe is but a continuation of numerous universes that existed before it. Each of these contributed to the creation of an object of great power called the
Creation
Matrix
, a blueprint for existence. Within this blueprint are constants, and one of these is the human form. While not perfect, the human form seems to possess a purpose as it repeats itself across infinity and there are many derivations to it that make one species seem totally alien to the rest. And yet, there is a mysterious supernatural element to most humans that allowa them to mate with one another regardless of their differences. The human form is thus a miracle of evolution replicated throughout infinity like seeds expected to grow and mature until transcending the limitations of their natural existence. Some might even become godlike in their presence while for others transition to become avatars of the creative spirit of their universe, the
Great Maker
as it were.
For most, it became a quest to find purpose to their existence and for the few it might lead to the discovery of greater powers within the universe that they might master. Yet, it could also prove more of a curse should they prove unable to find said purpose and they descend into something more malignant becoming a threat to the very existence of all things. Humanity has always dreamt of greater things which drives them onward to become more than they were possibly meant to be. For most, it's merely a desire to survive and to thrive while for others they could not be content with this. They became explorers, developers and conquerers always seeking to achieve and gain recognition for their accomplishments. But on this one particular world, humans would differ because the Earth was no ordinary world. It was a world older than time itself.
It began as one of twelve worlds within pre-existence orbiting a massive sun that served as an incubator for star dragons called
Devus 7
and was so named because colonists from another star system named these worlds after the name they gave to the Great Maker numbering them as they went. They would learn to coexist with the dragons out of desperation and to accept being ruled by them. It would be to this star system that an evil, tormented being called
Éshr̥ Déiwo
came who was becoming cosmic threat beyond reckoning feeding not just upon the lifeforms on these worlds but the very lifeforce of the planets
Mother Goddess
. It would consume the other 11 worlds in this solar system before cosmic forces entrapped him on Devus 7 using the power of a reforged
supermassive black hole
impaling Éshr̥ Déiwo on a golden, rune-covered stalagmite from which there would be no escape.
Yet, in the process of creating this prison, they would also transform the planet into a
nexus
world whose Mother Goddess
Pṛthvī Mātā
would be transformed as well. Then came the greatest battle between
Darkness and Light
where the ruler over a vast empire encompassing galaxies, called the
Shayāṭīn
, made war with the universe itself leading some of its greatest powers to Devus 7 to make their final stand. Although the Shayāṭīn would be defeated, he held in his possession a physical manifestation of the Creation Matrix called the
Eye of God with which he awakened a cosmic
devourer
of ultimate destruction called
OBLIVION
whose insatiable
Hunger had destroyed each universe before this one. As the universe looked on in horror, they witnessed as existence became nothingness and what survived of their would be saviors found their way to Devus 7.
Using the Eye of God to create a protective sphere around this world and its inhabitants so that they might survive the storm until it was time for a new universe to be born yet again. This world would be the first within this new universe beginning a cycle of destruction and rebirth where a dozen incarnations came and went before the birth of the Earth. The humans who eventually evolved upon it would inherit a unique distinction as within their very DNA existed latent genes that could grant them the means to manipulate supernatural and paranormal abilities. Drawn to this world would be an ancient race called the
Grays
who had been drawn to Earth to study and to chronicle its existence. They had discovered that Earth existed as a nexus where it alternate reality incarnations of it existed in every galaxy and even in other dimensions even if in dramatically different forms.
They also discovered a sub-dimension enshrouding this world that survived as a remnant of the
Cosmic Egg
that had surrounded and preserved it when pre-existence was destroyed. Within it existed
Worlds of Shadow as remnants of the worlds that came before it would be recreated where supernatural laws prevail over natural environments. The human condition is to exist in the natural world but where the supernatural presents itself they adapt and evolve to master such forces or they become transformed by them even against their will. It means they are
metaphysical
in nature and can take on myriad forms which the Grays are curious to understand and learn about as they are devoid of such metaphysical properties. But there are some among the Grays who have transferred human metaphysical properties to themselves such as the
Grandmasters
within the Worlds of Shadow.
The discovery of the Grays would make this even more difficult as they had remained hidden so as to not interfere with human development beyond more than what they deemed reasonable. As Earth's humans colonized space, their unique DNA allowed them to more easily modify themselves to live on almost any world even as their scientific genius allowed them to terraform worlds to better suit their original Terran biology. They would achieve many wondrous things through the use of science which often served to make manifest what their minds could conceive and manipulate from the natural universe around them until achieving mastery of unseen forces. Through science, they would even break through the barriers between the realms of the living and the dead while achieving immortality by overcoming limitations of cellular regeneration which causes
senescence
or transferring their consciousness into cloned bodies or artificial constructs.
Human souls were different in that they might understand they could be reincanated, survive as ghosts or pass on into the afterlife to endure whatever fates awaited them. All life was subject to this fate but human life was moreso because they understood something lay beyond life and that their souls would one day have to deal with it. For most, it was merely the hope that they would not remember the burdens of life because they wished to sleep or to forget it's sorrows and the pain. But for others, the afterlife was something to be feared because you could not forget who you had been and great suffering might await even as some hoped instead for rewards because they lived a good and productive life. The humans of Earth were, as already stated, unique and this would extend to the soul as well. But it was for those who learned to be more than mortal that things became more... interesting.
