31 Days of Hell ~ The Evil Within

31 Days of Hell is our annual tribute to Halloween. That time of the year when Summer dies and Autumn takes its wings... the time of slaughter when kith and kin prepare meat for the harsh Winter that is to follow. It is a time when children dress in costumes, running to and fro, in search of candies and other delights... a time of revelry and pranks where they joyfully say "Trick or Treat" with few understanding the meaning of the words. Halloween has many meanings and each October we celebrate them all with a contest granting you the freedom to express your darkest imaginings.
Show us the evil within yourself, the dark arts you might never share that haunt the recesses of your mind where none but you might enter. These are the doorways of which we speak in the introduction story as the highway you travel is but a dream that you hope never becomes reality. Even a child dressed as a sugarplum faerie might have a wicked streak slapping a piece of paper on someone's back that says "Kick Me". So it's not required you do scenes including violence as a little deviltry is all we ask.
This year's contest focuses you inside the darkness, the darkness of the mind, the heart... the forest beyond the trees that never die where death only lingers but never seems to become reality. The souls of those damned within forever find their way from one nightmare to the next where they are the authors of their fate even if someone else edits and revises the book where it is written.
If it is easier to help you on your way, think of the old EC and DC horror comics like House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Tales From The Crypt, and Vault of Horror where people have wandered into nightmarish realms where maybe all they did wrong was take a wrong turn.
Think Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Hellraiser, Jeepers Creepers, and other favorite horror movies as they can all exist in this place. Your favorite horror books or maybe those comics that I mentioned where you can do an homage to a favorite scene or even possibly create your own digital comic to illustrate a horror story of your own. Werewolves, zombies, ghosts, vampires, and devils galore... what lay within you that you wish to explore?
But please, don't be afraid to enter... we have candy and we're always willing to share!

RULES
1) All members who enter must understand how we do things. Our sponsors are posted here for you to have a look at. You are expected then to make a list of what you would like in order of how would you would like them if you win. You choose an item from sponsors where it says you may choose an item otherwise just list the sponsor if it's an item they have chosen for us. Get these lists to us. When the contest is over, judges will then choose our winners, and prizes are chosen based on who wins first place, second, and so forth.
First place gets the first item on their list that they said they wanted most. This is the privilege of winning first place. Second place then gets the top remaining prize on their list so that if both chose the same prize first, that prize isn't available to the Second place winner. Third place then receives the top prize on their list. When all entrants have a prize from their list but there are prizes remaining, we start again with the First place winner and repeat the process for the remaining prizes.
A ) You may provide a list to us at any time during the month. Providing the list does not guarantee a prize. Items given to runners-up, if any, will come from these lists or be donated by prize winners.
B ) If you do not provide the items you would like where you have won a "choice" of items from the sponsor, on the list you provide to us, you will have 5 business days after notification to contact us. It is unfair that, in cases where a sponsor provides a prize to multiple winners, winners who reply quickly must wait for winners who reply late. So try your best to get this information to us before the contest ends.
2) If we gain a new sponsor during the contest, we will announce this on the contest thread and add them to the list of sponsors below. We are not responsible if you do not check back in on this topic occasionally to see if anything has changed.
3) If you wish to enter but do not want to receive a prize, please tell us as you can enter for the opportunity to see where your art would place but be excluded from prizes. Some people have done this in the past and we offer a "No Prize" in their case.
4) Your images must follow the theme to the best of your ability. But how you do this is up to your individual creativity and imagination. So ask if you have questions about the theme.
5) There is a post limit of one image a day... no reworks as all images must be original for this contest. Try adding different races and different cultures... explore the variety that makes up who and what we are.
6) Do not post your artwork anywhere else for one day. Your artwork must include links to this contest or statements that it is for this contest.
7) Images posted late will be excluded from judging
8 ) Artistic nudity is allowed but our rules on child nudity apply. No child nudity is allowed. This is defined as genitals and nip's so cover them up or risk violating our rules. A good alternative would be anime.
9) The contest is open to any medium that you wish to use. You can enter with Computer generated images, photo manipulated, hand-drawn, painted, or any other type of medium you can think of. Make note of the prizes being offered as only rarely might they not be 3d oriented.
10) We consider it trolling if criticism about content is made when images are within the rules.
11) Unless otherwise specified, make sure to add an alternate prize selection should you want a bundle or partnered item. Some of our sponsors allow this, some do not and some may on certain items of which we have no way of knowing.
12) Consider adding some written text to explain your illustrations to help others better understand your image and leave comments on the entries of fellow contestants to show your appreciation.
13) Make sure to check and see if the prize you have won is a coupon or a gift certificate. If it clearly says it is a coupon, do not apply it as a gift certificate at the sponsors' site or vice versa.
14) The theme should focus on your interpretation of dark fantasy and horror. This is a contest devoted to Halloween and the season itself as Summer turns to Autumn.

B. Email Address
C) Real Name & Physical Mailing Address (for software and physical prizes)
16) Winners will be contacted and are also expected to check back in to avoid oversights barring unforeseen circumstances.
17) Our normal monthly contests will have 5 winners. Our larger contests will have up to 31 winners. We will alert members should this change at any time or if the sponsors have alerted us to award items to runners-up.
18) Remember, if you have any questions, please ask them in the contest topic so that staff or fellow members can explain and help you to understand rules or themes in our competition.
